To start with, why did it need to be
built better? Well if you have
ever had to find the time to assemble some of our competitors benches, and had
to drive one of those 4" screws into a 2" deep hole with of all things a slotted
screw driver, only to find it still wobbles, well that is only the
beginning....Here is how our
bench is so much better...
The English Garden bench is the most
popular piece in garden furnishings, and until ours, was one of the most
uncomfortable. Most English Garden benches, catch you right in your lower back
on their top rail, and have you sitting more up right than a church pew. We have
raised our top rail almost three inches, and relaxed the angle of the back over
14 degrees, which translates into a much more comfortable bench.
Most of the benches out there have flat
arms, most people do not. We have curved our arms, to contour comfortably to
your arm and rounded the end off to look pretty.
The next thing we noticed about most
garden benches, is that all of the wood used is of different widths. The seats
are made of 3" wide material, the arms are made of 4" wide material, and the
backs are made of 2" wide material. All of those wide boards seem to develop
cracks and checks in them. We have solved that problem, by making the backs,
arms, seats, and legs, all of the same thickness making it much easier on the
eyes.
And speaking of easier, couldn't
something be done to make the seat a little more comfortable? Yes, we did that
too. And why do they all seem to feel so loose? Some benches have mortise and
tenon joints. The strength of these joints depends on how tightly they fit. And
as they dry rot, the joints become loose. Other benches are held together with
sheet rock screws. These benches are the worst because the screws are way
undersized for the job. Our benches, use twenty massive 14" x 4" hardened lag
bolts. This is the very best method to use. And speaking of screws, couldn't
something be done to make the at-home assembly easier? This is our most
significant improvement of all. No tools required, that's right- the only tools
you will need will be included with your bench, and we have cut the assembly
time required on these benches to less than half of that of our competitors, and
have made it so much easier, that even the hand strength of a ten-year old could
assemble these benches, and have made them many times stronger in the
process.
Available in 4 foot and 5 foot
widths.
